Logwood Purple Hand Dyed Silk Doublecloth Scarf
The logwood tree grows in Yucatan, Mexico, is an ancient dye, and was used by the Maya, Aztec, and indiginous tribes. When the bark of the tree is simmered in water, it gives a beautiful purple with a red cast. I dyed this silk double cloth scarf in the logwood dyebath with Alum mordant.
The scarf is woven on a handloom in India by fair trade artisans. Two warps on the loom are woven at the same time, creating two layers joined by side seams. You can gently pull the layers apart to create more volume for styling.
Care: Lightweight, travel friendly, and washable on a gentle cycle. You can hang it to dry and iron it.
